Diagnosis of Obesity
  • Body Mass Index (BMI)

Body mass index (BMI), used to diagnose obesity, is weight divided by the square of height (kg/m2). In Asia, including Korea, a body mass index of 23 to 24 kg/m2 is diagnosed as overweight, and a body mass index of 25 kg/m2 or more is diagnosed as obesity.

  • Waist circumference

Waist circumference measurement is used as another diagnostic method. Regardless of body weight, a waist circumference of more than 90 cm for men and 85 cm for women is diagnosed as abdominal obesity.

  • Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA)

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), called InBody, measures the body's constituents - water, protein, minerals, and fat - by measuring the resistance value that occurs when a small electric current is passed through the human body.

  • Computed tomography (CT) examination

An abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan is also performed to evaluate the distribution of visceral and subcutaneous fat.

Severe Obesity Treatment Program

Made of polysilicon, it is thin and light, and is vacuum and waterproof. The soft, inflatable balloon inserted into the stomach allows you to feel full early after a meal and lasts for a long time, reducing your appetite. This allows you to lose weight without difficulty for 6 months.

End ball treatment process

Obesity injections and drug treatment

At Gangnam Gie Hospital, obesity injections and medications are prescribed based on accurate diagnosis by specialists, and safe long-term administration is possible, minimizing side effects. Obesity injections and drug treatments reduce hunger and increase satiety through drug administration, enabling healthy weight loss. It can also improve obesity-related comorbidities.

For obesity injections and drugs, we use injections and drugs approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and help reduce body weight, visceral fat, and intramuscular fat. It makes a healthy diet possible.
